SPEECH CONTEST 2005

Speech Contest chairman Bruce Bondelie presented four students as contestants in the Annual Speech Contest. Each student gave an excellent presentation and the judges agreed that all were good and the judging was very close.

Deena Shakir won the District Speech Contest!!

Bruce Bondelie conducted this year's speech contest. We had 3 contestants from Leland High School:Deena Shakir, Grace Chang, and Caohuu (Ming-Daug) Su-be. Providing moral support were Deena's mother, Kamila Shakir, and aunt Alaa Alhadi, and Grace's mother, Jenny Chen.

The speech theme was "Lend A Hand, It's All About Teamwork" and incorporated at least one of the principles of the 4-Way Test. All contestants gave excellent speeches. The winner, Deena, is a senior and will attend Harvard or Stanford next year. She will now if she succeeds go on to the Area, Regional and District contests.

All of the girls did an excellent job, with Deena Shakir taking the top prize and Elaine Kuo the first runner-up spot. Deena was the winner of our Speech Contest last year, went on to win the Area Speech Contest, but was unable to compete at the District Level because she was competing in the State speech competition. She finished ninth out of 20,000 entrants. Not bad!
