SPEECH CONTEST 2017

All four participants were all Leland High School students and were accompanied by their teacher and advisor Gay Brasher. Gay is celebrating her 50th year as a teacher. She is a drama teacher at Leland High School and heads up the school's award winning Speech and Debate team. Her students have participated in Rotary's speech contests for many years, some having made it to the top at the Rotary District level.

Rebecca Boylan was the Speech Contest Chair and ran the proceedings admirably. Present also were San Jose City Councilmember Johnny Khamis, Shannon Tavernier and Diane Lacina who acted as judges. Gregg Consentino was timekeeper and CPA's Gary Exberger and Miles Yamamoto tabulated the votes.

The four contestants were: Theodora Worledge - first place, Toby Simmons - second place, Phoebe Yin - third place, and Hannah Lee - fourth place. They all gave excellent speeches.
